Eklingji Temple In Udaipur, (Rajasthan Devdarshan)

Eklingji Temple is a revered Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the town of Kailashpuri, about 22 kilometers from Udaipur, Rajasthan. It is one of the most significant religious sites in the region, attracting devotees and tourists alike.

The temple was originally built in the 8th century by Bappa Rawal, the founder of the Mewar Dynasty. Over the centuries, it has undergone several renovations, with the current structure dating back to the 15th century. The temple is an architectural marvel, constructed in a traditional Nagara style, featuring intricately carved pillars, beautifully sculpted walls, and a towering shikhara (spire).

The main deity of the temple is Lord Eklingji, a form of Lord Shiva, worshipped as the ruling deity of Mewar. The sanctum houses a four-faced black marble Shiva lingam representing the four directions, symbolizing omnipresence. The temple complex comprises 108 smaller shrines dedicated to various Hindu deities, including Parvati, Ganesha, and Kartikeya.

Eklingji Temple holds great religious and historical importance. The rulers of Mewar considered Lord Eklingji as their supreme ruler, governing the kingdom as his representatives. Devotees visit the temple, especially on Mondays and during the festivals of Maha Shivratri and Shravan month, to seek divine blessings.

The serene surroundings of the temple, along with its spiritual ambiance and historical significance, make it a must-visit destination in Udaipur. The temple remains open for devotees during specific hours in the morning and evening, maintaining a peaceful and disciplined environment for worshippers.
