Tanot Mata Temple, Jaisalmer, (Rajasthan Devdarshan)

Tanot Mata Temple, located near the Indo-Pak border in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, is a revered shrine dedicated to Goddess Tanot, believed to be an incarnation of Goddess Hinglaj. The temple is famous not only for its spiritual significance but also for its miraculous role in India's military history.

According to legend, the temple was established around 847 AD by the Bhati Rajputs, who considered Tanot Mata their kuldevi (family deity). The temple gained national fame during the Indo-Pak wars of 1965 and 1971. It is said that during the 1965 war, Pakistan dropped hundreds of bombs near the temple, but none exploded, protecting the Indian soldiers stationed there. This miraculous event strengthened the temple’s reputation as a divine protector. Even today, unexploded bombs from the war are displayed in the temple premises as a testimony to its legend.

The temple is managed by the Border Security Force (BSF), and soldiers take care of its maintenance and daily rituals. The temple's architecture is simple yet majestic, with a golden-hued facade that blends seamlessly with the surrounding Thar Desert. Inside, the idol of Tanot Mata is adorned with beautiful ornaments, and regular aarti (prayer ceremonies) fill the temple with spiritual energy.

Every year, thousands of devotees visit  Tanot Mata Temple, especially during Navratri, when grand celebrations take place. Many soldiers also visit the temple to seek blessings before being deployed to border areas.

Located about 120 km from Jaisalmer, the temple is a symbol of faith, resilience, and divine protection. A visit to Tanot Mata Temple offers not just a spiritual experience but also a glimpse into India's rich history and the bravery of its soldiers.
